Mahón (Maó), Minorca

What do we enjoy mostly walking through charming towns like Mahón (Maó)?

Discovering all the narrow back streets. Wandering off the beaten track. Where we can spot unusual architectural details, locals busy with their everyday things not paying attention to the tourists, pavement bars and cafes occupied by local folks where you can feel the real atmosphere of the town.

We went to Mahon three times during our short Minorcan holidays. After the first evening visit we liked the capital of Menorca so much that decided to come back twice for a few hours.

For the first time we strolled at 6 km long beautiful harbour where is a wide array of bars, restaurants and cafes mostly located at the foot of the cliff.

Next two visits we wander through the old town, beautifully situated on top of these high cliffs overlooking at the port.

The old town is like an atmospheric maze of narrow streets with many cafes, artisan shops worth to stop and admire creativity and unique designs. The variety of architecture is also captivating. Restaurants and bars offering mainly delicious Minorcan cuisine.

I enjoyed details of buildings and mostly “boinders” - open and closed balconies.

It was really hard to put back the camera to the backpack.
