Morning Stroll Through Alaior.
Alaior is the third-largest town in Menorca.
Located almost in the centre of the island and not on the seacoast like the larger Mahón or Ciutadella.
On our previous trip to Menorca, we only used Alaior as a base for grocery shopping. Unfairly. This time, we set out to make up for it. It is not as touristically popular as its larger counterparts, but it definitely has its charm.
We visited the Alaior with Monika like we Prefer to visit other cities or towns. Starting in the morning, as a town or city wakes up, the rising sun gives them that warm contrast and charm of waking up. We strolled through the town, without a map, turning without a plan into narrow streets that seemed interesting to us, often stopping to take photos or look at some interesting buildings or flowers. We liked the idea of pots of flowers placed in front of tenement Houses or townhouses. Like all Menorcan towns or villages, it is spotless and has well-kept streets. We often saw locals sweeping the footpaths in front of their own houses. Of course, we had a strong black morning coffee and breakfast at the outside table in one of the many small bars.
Another thing that positively surprised us was the number of different cafes and bars, taking into account the size of the town (about 7,000 inhabitants), where outdoors you can eat a delicious breakfast for a decent price. Considering the middle of the week, with a small number of tourists, there were a lot of locals sitting there drinking coffee, spending their time chatting rather than using mobile phones. And you can judge the
subtle beauty and character of Alaior yourself from the photos.
We liked it enough to go back there with our daughters for another morning walk. And we will gladly do it again.
